Tipon, Peru.

Tipón is an Inca water garden in Peru’s Sacred Valley that WPI studied from 1999 to 2004.  We investigated the site’s hydrology and hydraulics and performed forensic investigations of the site surveying and grading employed by the Inca.  We learned that not only did the Inca develop miles of channels with perfect grade control, they performed cut and fill operations of immense proportions.  WPI successfully nominated Tipón as an American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.  WPI work also resulted in the book, Tipón: Water Engineering Masterpiece of the Inca Empire, available from ASCE Press and Amazon.com.
