Pompeii Water Infrastructure.
WPI’s Chief Roman Researcher Wayne Lorenz has led water infrastructure investigations of Pompeii in Italy’s Naples Bay region since 2009. The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 left the site largely intact under a layer of pumice, allowing for detailed evaluation of the knowledge and practices of Roman engineers. WPI studies have focused on piping and water features in specific Pompeii houses, leading to the publication of numerous articles and collaboration with several experts.
